18.18

疏　此中下，三、會文意。初牒前文。是過去下，正顯意。以散下，出所以。如阿難唯好多聞，何曾有定？不妨給侍如來。後遭石室之呵，亦緣無定，不能斷結。又諸菩薩例皆慧少定多，得見佛者無限，皆斯類也。

[Commentary:] "Herein..." and below: third, reconciling the import of the texts. First, repeating the previous text. "It is the past..." and below directly reveals the intent. "Because of distraction..." and below provides the reason. For example, Ānanda only loved extensive learning; when did he ever possess concentration? Yet this did not prevent him from attending upon the Tathāgata. Later, when he met with the scolding at the stone chamber, it was also because he lacked concentration and could not sever the fetters. Furthermore, as a rule, all bodhisattvas have little wisdom and much concentration; those who attain sight of the Buddha are boundless, and all belong to this class.
