[On the Treatise's] "That is..." below: second, demonstrating the dharma. The Commentary has two [parts]: first, explaining the upper phrase, which has two: first, explaining the word "one" (一), which has two: first, explaining it according to its own essence. "The non-dual true mind": vertically exhausting [all time] and horizontally pervading [all space], it is the equal support of all dharmas; vessel and sentient beings, ordinary beings and sages, have only this as essence. Apart from the true mark, there are no other dharmas; hence it is called "non-dual." To eliminate what is false and delusive, its spiritual mirror is unobscured; hence it is called the "true mind." [On] "This is not..." below, it eliminates confusion. Now, when one speaks of "one", it is the beginning of visible numbers; here it is not such as this. [On] "That is to say, as..." below, it clarifies the mark of the "one": it means that the principle of tathatā is open, pervasive, and completely harmonious, utterly equal with respect to all dharmas, its essence not being distinct; hence it is called "one."
