Under "Countering obstacles," the Commentary says: "Curing the two faults..." Ordinary beings do not know that the own-nature of all dharmas is unproduced; seeing persons and dharmas, they give rise to craving and delight in dwelling in the world. Now, cultivating the path of calming causes them to know that dharmas are originally not so and now are without cessation; naturally they see the three realms as false and illusory, like flowers in the sky, and do not delight in dwelling in or clinging to them. When those of the two vehicles attain this, they see dharmas as without self and are not terrified by suffering; how would they wish to quickly take quiescent nirvāṇa? From "Because calming..." below, it explains the reason, which is understood. "Directly curing the two vehicles": because the two vehicles solely sink into emptiness, taking emptiness as realization, terrified of saṃsāra, they seek only self-benefit and do not give rise to benefiting others, not accomplishing the Buddhadharma. Now, cultivating the path of insight, they know that all dharmas, through the harmonious conjunction of causes and conditions, falsely have arising, and through the separation of causes and conditions, falsely have cessation; knowing illness and recognizing medicine, they manifest various illusions to eliminate the illusion-maker, transforming various illusions to enlighten illusory multitudes. This naturally frees them from narrow and inferior views and gives rise to great compassion, universally capable of rescue. If ordinary beings attain this, they can know impermanence, suffering, emptiness, non-self, and impurity, and cultivate all wholesome practices; by cultivating the gate of insight, they do not destroy conditioned dharmas and are able to eliminate this obstacle.
