In the benefit of hearing, the treatise states: 'If a person, etc.' has two meanings. First, merely being able to be undaunted in this manner will certainly result in receiving a prophecy from a Tathāgata at another time, just as the Buddha Ratnagarbha stated that Śākyamuni would in a later time certainly receive a prophecy from the Tathāgata Dīpaṃkara. Second, when one's noble conduct is like this, it is fitting in principle that one should receive a prophecy, as the end of the chapter on Śuddhamati in the Yuanjue jing states: 'If a person hears this Dharma gateway and does not give rise to alarm and fear, this is called following pure enlightenment. You should know that such a sentient being has already made offerings to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis of Gaṅgā rivers and planted many roots of virtue; the Buddha says that this person is called one who accomplishes the wisdom of all modes.' The meaning is identical to this. Furthermore, as the Lotus Sūtra states: 'After the Tathāgata's parinirvāṇa, if there is a person who hears the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra, even a single verse or a single gāthā, and rejoices for a single thought-moment, I also confer upon him the prophecy of anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi.'
