Commentary: "Meaning that realizing…" introduces the second part, properly explaining the present line, in two sections: now first, based on the basic treatise. "Realizing the principle and giving rise to practice" means that the bodhisattvas on the bhūmis generate anāsrava wisdom and realize the principle of tathatā, and the practices they give rise to accord with truth in every respect, none failing to be as it truly is. "Truth" (實) is real mark (dharmatā). Practice according with truth is called "practicing as it truly is". The text below is the passage on the purity of wisdom mark of original enlightenment according with defilement; that passage merely says: "Relying on the perfuming of the power of the Dharma, practicing as it truly is, fulfilling skillful means." Now the Commentary allocates the stages according to the text, which is why there are words such as "before the bhūmis". Regarding "the stage of fulfillment of the bhūmis": because at the fulfillment of the bhūmis practice comes to an end, it speaks of "stage" and not "practice". Now by mentioning "as it truly is" to equal the fulfillment of the bhūmis, it is said to "mention the middle to equal the end".
