[The passage from] "this is" onwards is, fourth, pointing to it in praise. "Not of consciousness" and so forth: how could an outflow-tainted ordinary being fathom the complete sound manifested by the Buddha's undefiled wisdom? One can only revere it in faith without need to probe it, because it is not an object of the mind and consciousness. "Not an object of consciousness" means it cannot be cognized by consciousness. "Not an object of the mind" means it cannot be known by wisdom. Deliberation is precisely the mark of cognizing by consciousness. Now, the Avataṃsaka contains ten similes to reveal the characteristics of the Tathāgata's complete sound; they cannot be cited at length.
