1.22

「數年小差，復欲出遊。王曰：『汝每出觀，還輙不樂，唯憂消瘦，又出何為？』太子曰：『念彼苦耳，年大當差。』王勅國中，莫使老病諸不潔淨在道側也。

"After several years, when he had recovered slightly, he again wished to go out on an excursion. The king said: 'Every time you go out sightseeing, you always return unhappy, merely grieving and growing emaciated; why go out again?' The prince said: 'I was merely thinking of their suffering; as my years increase it should improve.' The king commanded the realm: 'Do not let any old, sick, or impure things be beside the road.'"
