3.52

三名現識，謂現一切諸境界相，猶如明鏡現眾色像。現識亦爾，如其五境對至即現，無有前後，不由功力。

[Text of the treatise:] The third is named 'manifesting consciousness', meaning that it manifests the marks of all sense-objects, just as a bright mirror manifests images of various forms. The manifesting consciousness is also like this: according to its five sense-objects, as they present themselves they immediately manifest, without before or after, not relying on effort.
