3.56

五名相續識，謂恒作意相應不斷，任持過去善、惡等業，令不失壞；成熟現、未苦樂等報，使無違越；已曾經事忽然憶念，未曾經事妄生分別。

[Text of the treatise:] The fifth is named 'continuous consciousness', meaning that constantly associated with attention, without interruption, it retains past good and bad karmas, preventing them from being lost or destroyed; matures present and future retribution of suffering and pleasure, making them not deviate; suddenly recalls things already experienced, and falsely discriminates things not yet experienced.
