4.41

木中火性，譬賴耶中無漏種也。若無人知，譬不遇善知識緣也。不施功，譬不修勝行也。出火，譬生智慧也。燒木，譬斷煩惱，壞和合識也。法合可知。

The nature of fire within wood illustrates the untainted seeds within the ālaya. "If no one knows of it" illustrates not encountering the condition of a kalyāṇamitra. "Does not apply effort" illustrates not cultivating superior practices. Fire emerging illustrates generating wisdom. Burning the wood illustrates severing afflictions and destroying the consciousness of combination. The application of the metaphor can be understood.
