This clarifies the initial dwelling of generating the mind according to the gradual teaching, which merely cuts off the afflictions of views within the realms, equaling the initial fruition of the Hinayāna; therefore, they may still have slight suffering. However, the initial fruition already marks the boundary of the ocean of birth and death, taking at most no more than seven lifetimes to forever exit the wheel of suffering. How much more so for a bodhisattva who has generated the mind, upheld by the power of bodhi vows—how could they be bound by karma for long!
