Next, discussing them according to persons: Persons refer to śrāvakas, pratyekabuddhas, and bodhisattvas. Speaking generally, every person possesses all of them. Within this, distinguishing them separately: a person who is a śrāvaka awakens to the path upon hearing the teaching, accomplishing wisdom derived from hearing; therefore, according to this characteristic, they are called a 'śrāvaka' (voice-hearer). A pratyekabuddha deeply thinks upon the meaning of the twelve links of dependent origination, accomplishing wisdom derived from thinking; therefore, according to this characteristic, they are called a 'pratyekabuddha' (condition-awakened one). 'Condition' is the meaning, and 'awakened' means thought. A bodhisattva skillfully cultivates the path of mutual benefit, accomplishing wisdom derived from cultivation; therefore, according to this characteristic, they are called a 'bodhisattva'. 'Bodhisattva' is translated here as 'path sentient being', because they cultivate the path of benefiting oneself and benefiting others. The three wisdoms are as such.
