11.54

次約聞思修證分別。四中初一是其聞慧，持教法故；第二義持是其思慧；第三呪術依禪而起，攝末從本是其修慧，一切禪定修慧攝故；第四忍持是其證行，證心住理說為忍故（此三門竟）。

Next, distinguishing them in terms of hearing, reflection, cultivation, and realization. Among the four, the first is wisdom derived from hearing, because it retains the spoken teachings. The second, retention of meaning, is wisdom derived from reflection. The third, mantra, arises based on dhyāna, and subsuming the branch under the root, it is wisdom derived from cultivation, because all dhyāna concentrations are subsumed under wisdom derived from cultivation. The fourth, retention of forbearance, is realized practice, because the realized mind abiding in principle is spoken of as forbearance (this concludes the third section).
