次明五種次第之義。如《地持》說：菩薩方便，為化眾生。是故先說眾生無量。所化眾生住處可得？是故次說第二無量。用何法化？是故次說第三無量。依何心化？是故次說第四無量。化住何法？是故次說第五無量（此三門竟）。

Next, clarifying the meaning of the sequence of the five kinds. As the Bodhisattvabhūmi states: The skillful means of the bodhisattva are for transforming sentient beings; therefore, immeasurable sentient beings is taught first. Can the dwelling places of the sentient beings to be transformed be obtained? Therefore, the second immeasurable is taught next. With what dharmas are they transformed? Therefore, the third immeasurable is taught next. Relying on what mind are they transformed? Therefore, the fourth immeasurable is taught next. In what dharmas are they transformed to abide? Therefore, the fifth immeasurable is taught next (this concludes the third gate).
