Next, the meaning of differences in karmic fruits and retributions is discussed. According to the Sandhinirmocana, the practices of the six pāramitās each obtain one fruit: through giving, one obtains great bliss; through morality, one is born in good destinies; through forbearance, one has no enemies; through vigor, whatever wholesome practices one cultivates will not be destroyed by external conditions; through dhyāna, one brings forth much joy and becomes a master of sentient beings such as Brahmā; through wisdom, one possesses great capability and is not harmed by any birth and death. If according to the Bodhisattvabhūmi, the practice of giving obtains great wealth externally, and internally obtains the retribution of five things: physical form, strength, lifespan, peace and happiness, and unimpeded eloquence. The remaining five pāramitās each obtain one fruit: through morality, one is born in good destinies with extraordinary lifespan and qualities; through forbearance, one obtains wholesome skillful means, enduring the encroachment of others without vexing sentient beings; through vigor, one obtains all co-nascent skillful means that are firm and capable; through dhyāna, wherever one is born there are few defilements, and one understands meanings and attains penetrative insight; through wisdom, in future lives one's wisdom increases and broadens. Such are the distinct characteristics.
