Pure [concentration] viewed in relation to anāsrava is also explained in three clauses: First, the completeness and number of conditions. Excluding the cause-condition, there are the remaining three kinds. Pure generating anāsrava is not of the same category, so it lacks its cause-condition; the remaining three are broad in meaning, and therefore can exist. Second, discrimination with respect to stages. Both its own stage and other stages can serve as conditions, identical to the latter three conditions in the preceding section. Third, discrimination by grades of quality. Because pure and anāsrava generate one another as different categories, they cannot be distinguished into superior, medium, and inferior; one need only know that it serves as three conditions generally for everything generated (these two sections are concluded).
