Next, the locus of arising is explained. Cultivating and giving rise [to knowledge] in accordance with [one's physical] embodiment is called the locus of arising. According to the Abhidharma, the initial four truths cognitions, inductive knowledge, conventional knowledge, and the knowledge of exhaustion and non-arising arise in all realms. Knowledge of others' minds is cultivated and arises in the desire and form realms. Knowledge of phenomena is cultivated and arises only in the desire realm. In the Tattvasiddhi system, the former nine cognitions arise in all realms, while the single knowledge of others' minds is presumably the same as in the Abhidharma. In the Mahāyāna system, the former nine cognitions are the same as in the Tattvasiddhi; the single knowledge of others' minds is initially the same as in the Abhidharma, but ultimately and fully accomplished, it arises in all realms, because wherever the embodiments of the buddhas and bodhisattvas may be, they know the minds of all sentient beings.
