次辨涅槃。如論中說「涅槃有二：一者有餘、二者無餘。」此義備如涅槃章說。涅槃義者，非直斷絕生死因果，對治無處為涅槃義。蓋如經說「法本不然，今亦無滅，是寂滅義。」此是涅槃實相義也。四優檀那，厥趣如是。

Next is to explain nirvāṇa. As stated in the treatises: "Nirvāṇa is twofold: first, with remainder; second, without remainder." This meaning is fully set forth as explained in the chapter on nirvāṇa. As for the meaning of nirvāṇa, it is not simply the severing of the causes and fruits of saṃsāra, taking the absence of what was antidoted as the meaning of nirvāṇa. Rather, it is as the sūtra says: "Dharmas originally do not burn, nor do they now cease; this is the meaning of tranquil cessation." This is the meaning of the true mark of nirvāṇa. The purport of the four udānas is thus.
