Now next, regarding the internal indeterminate causes, subsuming them into two: The single cause of generating is solely a generative cause, because it generates within its own class. The four causes—the cause by conventional expression, the cause of gathering, the contrary cause, and the non-contrary cause—are expedient causes. Within the cause by being, both causes are present: because the indeterminate mind arises initially and can produce what follows, this is determined to belong to the generative cause; because there is an external object that can give rise to the mind, this is an expedient cause. Within [the cause of] planting, both causes are also present, identical to the cause by being. Within the cause of growth, both causes are gathered: the initial seed gradually increasing to produce the initial deportment, craftsmanship, or transformation is its generative cause; the rest are called expedient. Within the cause of its own seed, both causes are also present: viewing the expedient mind in relation to the initial deportment, craftsmanship, or transformation to describe its own seed, such an 'own seed' is indeed a generative cause; viewing it in relation to subsequent deportment, craftsmanship, or transformation to describe its own seed, this is an expedient cause, because it does not directly generate them. Within the cause of shared function, both causes are also present, identical to the preceding causes from the cause by being down to the cause of its own seed, gathering them all together because they share a common function (this concludes the second section).
