次第二門辨其體相。於中曲有六門分別：一多少分別、二使纏分別、三六識分別、四三界分別、五三性分別、六約時分別。言多少者，《毘婆沙》云「此之五蓋，名五、體七、種別三十。」名五如上。言體七者，貪、瞋、癡三，睡、眠、掉、悔合為七也。種三十者，貪欲、嗔恚、睡、眠及掉，見修通斷。約彼四諦及望修道各別為五，此則別為二十五也。疑唯見斷，約諦分四，悔唯修斷，約修為一，通前合為三十種也。多少如是（此一門竟）。

Next, the second section determines their essential characteristics. Within this, there are six detailed analytical gateways: first, distinguishing quantity; second, distinguishing latencies and entanglements; third, distinguishing the six consciousnesses; fourth, distinguishing the three realms; fifth, distinguishing the three natures; sixth, distinguishing according to time. As for distinguishing quantity, the Vibhāṣā states: 'These five hindrances are five in name, seven in essence, and thirty in variety.' They are five in name as above. As for their seven essences: the three of greed, anger, and delusion; together with torpor, sleep, restlessness, and remorse, combine to make seven. As for the thirty varieties: sensual desire, ill will, torpor, sleep, and restlessness are abandoned through both seeing and cultivation. Delineated according to the four truths and with respect to the path of cultivation, each has five separate kinds, which individually make twenty-five. Doubt is abandoned only through seeing, divided into four according to the truths; remorse is abandoned only through cultivation, making one with respect to cultivation; combined with the preceding, they make thirty varieties altogether. Such is the quantity (this finishes the first gateway).
