Next, their characteristics are distinguished with respect to physical forms and destinies. 'Destinies' refers to the five destinies; among the five destinies, only humans possess it; among the remaining destinies, there are only courses of action (karmapatha), but no unwholesome restraint. Thus the *Tattvasiddhi* says: 'Only humans possess it.' The Abhidharma is also like this. Question: The *Tattvasiddhi* explains that dragons (nāgas) and so forth acquire the wholesome restraint; why do they not acquire the unwholesome restraint? Because the wholesome restraint is received from a teacher, it is acquired due to the strength of conditions; evil is not like this, so it is not acquired. Such are the distinctions among destinies. What about the distinctions among physical forms? According to the Abhidharma, those of the male and female forms acquire the unwholesome restraint, while the rest do not. In the system of the Tattvasiddhi, the impotent and so forth all also acquire it. A brief account of the unwholesome restraint is as stated.
