A person of illustrious virtue in the Eastern Land, whose Dharma name was Jizang, / Served the Buddha through successive kalpas, / Exalting and propagating the Sanlun.
Its profound and esoteric cardinal tenets / Were as if forgotten in the final age;
Our former master grieved over this, / Exclusively harboring sorrowful lament.
After his transformation and passing, / Repeatedly the stars and frosts passed by.
In the holy era of Kōan, / At the beginning of the third autumn,
When thirteen years / Of memorial days arrived,
To assist in seeking posthumous merit, / For these profound chapters of the Mahāyāna,
Printing blocks were reverently carved, / To illuminate its remaining light,
Enshrined in Seiryō-gū,
Where the joy of Dharma was augmented and adorned.
Unexpectedly, these printing blocks / Suffered the calamity of fire;
The scholarly companions of Daigo / Could not endure their grieving hearts.
Each contributed robes and almsbowls, / That the text of the treatise might shine forth once more.
The clouds over Mount She have vanished, / The moon of the eight negations is cool;
The breeze of Jinling fans outward, / The blossom of the One Reality is fragrant.
May the karmic wisdom generated / Be dedicated without limit:
May the holy transformation of the Emperor / Have virtue surpassing the Three Sovereigns;
May the four seas be tranquil and peaceful, / With congratulations extending to a hundred kings;
May the realm of gratitude of seven lifetimes / Cause the Buddha Path to increase and grow;
Universally bestowed upon all beings, / May the benefits be vast and magnificent.
