問：若爾，云何得相待耶？解云：《百論》明相待義。論文云「相待故，如大小」。言相待如大小者，如一㮈望苽為小、望棗則為大，㮈亦大亦小。俗亦爾，望凡為諦、望聖則非諦，俗亦諦亦非諦也。

Question: If so, how can they be mutually dependent? Explanation: The Śataśāstra explains the meaning of mutual dependence. The text of the treatise states: 'Because of mutual dependence, like large and small.' Regarding 'mutual dependence like large and small': just as one pear viewed against a melon is small, but viewed against a jujube is large, a pear is both large and small. Convention is also thus: viewed against the ordinary it is a truth, but viewed against the noble it is not a truth; convention is both a truth and not a truth.
