This treatise text has two sections: first the preface, and later the main text. Now this is the first, the preface. The text of the preface has three parts: first, indicating the correct fundamental doctrine; second, refuting deviant views; third, setting forth the purpose of the treatise. Now this is the first. In this text there are also three parts: first, indicating the true objective sphere; second, clarifying true wisdom; third, jointly clarifying the objective sphere and wisdom. Now this is the first. As for saying "ultimate emptiness and non-arising": this is the true objective sphere of non-arising and ultimate emptiness. As for "is surely the wondrous purport of prajñā's profound contemplation, and the ultimate principle of existing things": "surely" (gai) is a word of uncertainty; taking it as such yet not daring to state it definitively, he therefore says "surely." "Purport" has the sense of tendering toward; "principle" means the fundamental doctrine. This means that this non-arising and ultimate emptiness is the objective sphere contemplated by prajñā, the fundamental doctrine of the ten thousand things.
