Third, citing a scripture to verify and establish it. As for 'just as an illusory, transformed person,' there are three readings for this: first, joining the three clauses together as one passage; second, taking 'just as an illusory, transformed person' as a clause, with the following two clauses connected together; third, taking 'just as an illusory, transformed person is not a non-existent illusory, transformed person' as a clause, and what follows as a passage. Now we temporarily follow the first. As for the difference between 'illusory' (*huan*) and 'transformed' (*hua*): arising into existence from non-existence is *hua*; arising into existence from existence is *huan*. 'It is not that there is no illusory, transformed person, but an illusory, transformed person is not a real person': 'not that there is none' means precisely not non-existent; 'not real' means precisely not existent.
