"On a later day, when the Buddha had finished bathing in the Finger-Pointed Pond, he wished to climb out, but had nothing to grasp. Beside the pond there had always been a tree called *kaha, which was exceptionally large, tall, and fine; that tree naturally bent down toward the Buddha, and the Buddha climbed out by grasping it. Seeing the tree bent down and casting its shade, Kāśyapa was puzzled and asked again. The Buddha said: 'I entered the pond to bathe, and had nothing to grasp to climb out; therefore the tree deity bent it down for me.' Kāśyapa thought again: 'Although this great śramaṇa is spiritual, he is still not equal to my Way, which is real!'
