求（索也）向（昔也）物於向，於向未嘗無；責（求也）向物於今，於今未嘗有。於今未嘗有，以明物不來；於向未嘗無，故知物不去。

If one seeks (searches for) a past (former) thing in the past, in the past it was never absent; if one demands (searches for) a past thing in the present, in the present it has never existed. In the present it has never existed, which shows that things do not come; in the past it was never absent, therefore we know that things do not go.
