This resolves the previous objection. 'Examining further' means investigating repeatedly. 'The sages' words' refers to the teaching of impermanence mentioned earlier. As for 'subtle, hidden, and hard to fathom,' because the words are provisional while the purport is real, the *Nirvāṇa-sūtra* calls them 'secret words.' The wise ministers of the Mahāyāna skillfully recognize the secret intent. The meaning is that although it speaks of impermanence, it also secretly reveals true permanence; one must not cling to the words and exclusively interpret it as impermanence. Because the two dharmas are mutually dependent: if this exists, that definitely exists. From 'seeming to move' down, [the text] explains why it is hard to fathom: if one says that the movement of impermanence is itself the stillness of true permanence, it is like saying that a person departs yet fundamentally never departed; the difficulty in fathoming lies right here.
