1.18

初句躡前，因緣是因、諸法是果。因無果有，無有是處，此約前際。後句既法自緣生有為遷謝，因緣離散諸法滅謝，此約後際。

The first phrase follows from the preceding: causes and conditions are the cause, and all dharmas are the result. For the cause to be absent while the result is present is impossible; this is stated with respect to the prior limit. In the latter phrase, since dharmas arise from conditions of themselves and the conditioned undergoes transition and decay, when causes and conditions separate and disperse, all dharmas perish and decay; this is stated with respect to the posterior limit.
