The "three disasters" are fire, water, and wind. Although the three disasters are ferocious, how could they scorch and ruin empty space? Even though the ocean of kalpas is vast, how could it shift and submerge real practice? As for "engulf" (milun), Qingliang says: "It carries the meaning of being universally pervasive and encompassing. It means that although the three disasters destroy everything, they cannot destroy causal practices, also because these tally with reality."
