Being about to refute the erroneous calculations of the three schools, he again raises the extremely profound principle that is difficult to understand and difficult to enter, which caused their views to fall short of thoroughness. "Things" is the realm wherein ultimate and conventional are harmoniously fused. "Self" is the mind wherein provisional and real are both harmoniously fused. "Sharing the same root" means that mind and object encompass each other without difference. "Right and wrong" are ultimate and conventional; being mutually identical, they are also of a single pneumata. Master Sheng said: "Because right and wrong are mutually dependent, the names of ultimate and conventional arise; if one truth is considered real, the four statements become provisional." From "profound, subtle" down: the principle being deep is called "profound"; being difficult to see is called "hidden"; the multitude of minds may understand partially, but cannot exhaust it, just as with the three schools.
