初句舉時謬之輩。由正理幽隱，所以近來云云。次二句見異，次二句執異背同，後二句依見述論。唐光瑤禪師疏有七宗，此論略出三家，故云眾也。見既有異，性理隨殊。

The first line cites the contemporaries with erroneous views. Because the correct principle is obscure and hidden, there have been such discussions recently. The next two lines concern divergent views; the following two lines concern grasping divergence and turning away from unity; the final two lines concern producing treatises based on these views. Chan Master Guangyao of the Tang enumerated seven schools in his commentary; this treatise briefly brings out three schools, hence it says "myriad." When views diverge, their understandings of the nature and principle vary accordingly.
