初二句明得名，由見實相故名般若。後二句見而非證，直由大悲導智令不證空，出二乘也。《淨名》云：「無方便慧縛，有方便慧解。」以無悲之智醉寂滅酒，墮無為阬故。

The first two lines explain how the name is acquired: because it sees dharmatā, it is named prajñā. The latter two lines state that it sees yet does not realize; this is precisely because great compassion guides wisdom so that it does not realize emptiness, transcending the two vehicles. The Vimalakīrtinirdeśa says: "Wisdom without expedient means is bondage; wisdom with expedient means is liberation." This is because wisdom without compassion is intoxicated with the wine of quiescent extinction and falls into the pit of the unconditioned.
