1.85

何者（微也）？夫談真則逆俗，順俗則違真。違真故迷性而莫返（歸也），逆俗故言淡而無味。

Why (how so)? For to speak of the true goes against the conventional, while to follow the conventional contradicts the true. Because it contradicts the true, they are deluded about the nature and do not return (revert); because it goes against the conventional, the words are bland and tasteless.
