真非緣起，故照境之時了無分別；妄自緣生，故能所歷然。外託塵境、內生分別，故云知緣等。

The true is not dependently arisen; therefore, when it illuminates objects, it is entirely free from discrimination. The deluded is produced from conditions; therefore, the subjective and objective are distinctly clear. Externally relying on sense-objects and internally generating discrimination, it is therefore said that knowing and conditions [mutually depend, etc.].
