生上人頃在此同止數年，至於言話之際，常相稱詠（讚）。中途（路）還（詞緣切迴也）南，君得與相見，未更近問，惘悒何言。威道人至，得君《念佛三昧詠》并得遠法師三昧詠及序。此作（絕句）興寄既高、辭致清婉，能文之士率稱其美，可謂游涉聖門扣玄關之唱也。君與法師當數有文集，因來何少？

The Venerable Daosheng recently resided together with me here for several years; whenever words and conversation arose, he constantly praised you. Midway he returned south, and you were able to meet with him; not having received recent news from you again, how can I express my sorrowful longing? When Daoist Wei arrived, I received your Eulogy on the Samādhi of Recollecting the Buddha, as well as Master Yuan's Eulogy on Samādhi and its preface. This work is exalted in its poetic resonance and its wording is clear and graceful; all men capable of literature praise its beauty, and it can truly be called a chant that wanders into the sacred portals and knocks at the mysterious barrier. You and the Master must frequently have collections of writings; why have so few arrived with travelers?
