2.62

難曰：夫聖人真心獨朗，物物斯照；應接無方，動與事會。物物斯照，故知無所遺；動與事會，故會不失機。會不失機，故必有會於可會；知無所遺，故必有知於可知。必有知於可知故，聖無虛知；必有會於可會故，聖不虛會。

The objection states: Now, the sage's true mind is uniquely luminous, illuminating every single thing; his responsiveness is without fixed direction, moving in encounter with affairs. Illuminating every single thing, his knowing leaves nothing out; moving in encounter with affairs, his encounters do not miss the opportune moment. Because encounters do not miss the opportune moment, there must be an encounter with that which can be encountered; because knowing leaves nothing out, there must be knowing of that which can be known. Because there must be knowing of that which can be known, the sage does not have empty knowing; because there must be an encounter with that which can be encountered, the sage does not have an empty encounter.
