The first two lines explain using wisdom to realize principle; the latter two lines explain the characteristics of realizing principle. "The hare and the horse" refers to the sūtra's teaching of the elephant, horse, and hare crossing the same river together; the river itself has no differences, but their attainment of depth varies, which serves as a metaphor for the three vehicles entering the dharmatā together with three different degrees of depth. The present meaning is: using the realized ultimate truth, which originally lacks the traces of the hare and horse's shallow and deep depths, to regulate prajñā, prajñā likewise lacks diverse and inexhaustible discriminations in its mirror-like illumination.
