The first two sentences raise the accomplishment, and from "yet the treatise" down shows the failing. "Consummate person" refers to nirvāṇa. The Chuxian shu states: "Although it clearly manifests the body, this is the great function of nirvāṇa." From "being and non-being" down means cutting off both names and marks. "Profound path" means the deep and obscure path, meaning guiding beings without names or marks. Because beings are unable to attain it, it is harbored within itself. From "searching in quiet thought" down means that those who hold to names seek and contemplate, yet have nowhere to set their minds.
