'Contemplate' (fangfu) means similar comparison; it is like saying one models oneself on the mysterious Dao to awaken. How does one model it? First, marks are severed; second, words are forgotten; one must not cling to the words of existence and non-existence and obstruct mysterious awakening. From 'embody' downward means one can only embody and investigate its being neither existent nor non-existent; without producing perceptual awareness, one naturally joins with the mystery. If one posits that outside of existence and non-existence there is separately another nirvāṇa, one re-enters the realm of existence; how could one transcend it?
