3.270

由識根差別故，所以俱往彼岸而高下不齊。喻以生死為此岸、煩惱為中流、涅槃為彼岸。彼岸唯一，為力不同，故成異也。

Because of the differences in conscious faculties, they all go to the other shore yet are uneven in high and low. The metaphor takes saṃsāra as this shore, the afflictions as the midstream, and nirvāṇa as the other shore. The other shore is only one; because their efforts are not the same, differences are formed.
