梵云檀那，此云布施。《賢劫經》說：「一切諸法無有與者，是曰布施。」《成具經》云：「不為而過為。」禪經說：「慈心三昧有無緣之慈。」《思益經》略云：「無取捨之知方為知矣。」

In Sanskrit it is called dāna; here it is rendered 'giving'. The Bhadrakalpika-sūtra says: 'That among all dharmas there is no giver is called giving.' The Chengju jing says: 'Not doing, yet surpassing doing.' The dhyāna scriptures say: 'The samādhi of a benevolent mind possesses benevolence without conditions.' The Viśeṣacintibrahmaparipṛcchā-sūtra briefly says: 'Knowing without grasping or rejecting is alone knowing.'
