Not knowing that it is neither name nor characteristic, they forcibly speak and forcibly cognize; thus they lose its truth and turn into folly. Not knowing that it is neither existent nor non-existent, they forcibly assert existence and non-existence; thus they go against its nature and harm the person. To 'harm its person': the body originally arises from nature; now since one takes it to be non-existent, one thereby harms one's own body. Duke Zhuang of Dong'an said: 'If form is existent, it does not hold, for probing the source reveals obscurity; if form is non-existent, it does not hold, for conditioned arising brings forth ten thousand forms.'
