The first cites the Jin *Avataṃsaka-sūtra*, namely the elder Sthira's accomplished Dharma gate named 'Non-Extinction,' and the samādhi attained by him named 'Inexhaustible Buddha-nature.' The Tang translation names it 'Inexhaustible Buddha-lineage.' Sanskrit *samādhi* is translated here as correct reflection, and also as correct absorption. 'Inexhaustible' is because Buddha-nature is inexhaustible; entering this samādhi, seeing the Buddhas of the three periods of time is also inexhaustible. Furthermore, in this school, the three periods of time mutually manifest; hence within the present, one sees the Buddhas of the past and future. It is extensively shown as in the scripture. The subsequent citation shares the same meaning, namely the meaning in the twenty-first fascicle of that scripture. Thus we know that beneath the sandalwood stūpa the sublime contemplation originally persists, and upon Vulture Peak Śākyamuni constantly abides; do not follow false discrimination to see coming and going.
