A sūtra states: 'True liberation transcends words and enumeration; it is peaceful, ceased, and eternally serene, without beginning and without end, neither obscure nor bright, neither cold nor hot, pure and still like empty space, without name and without exposition.' A treatise states: 'Nirvāṇa is neither existent nor non-existent; the path of language is cut off, and the sphere of mental activity has ceased.'
