The first two sentences clarify according with capacities: when it is fitting to emerge, he comes forth; when it is fitting to pass away, he enters into it; with only benefiting beings in his heart, what fixity is there in moving and shifting? The meaning also encompasses transforming according with kinds. The next two sentences clarify the breadth of transformation, meaning that the Eightfold Correct Path and the rest are spread abroad, the triple realm is entirely saturated, the five vehicles are operated together, and all capacities are delivered. From "Mother of Transformation" down: Daoist texts take qi as the mother of transformation. Yun'an says: "Causes and conditions are able to produce all dharmas, like the mother of transformation." "Profound pivot" is a metaphor for wisdom. The turning of a door pivot is a metaphor for subsequent wisdom responding and moving. However, the preceding sentence raises the sphere of transformation, and the subsequent sentence clarifies transformative wisdom. It means exhausting the principle by which causes and conditions bring things into being, carrying its functioning of wisdom to the utmost limit, preaching the teaching of arising and ceasing through causes and conditions, knowing to deliver those who can be delivered and to leave aside those who cannot be delivered, and also knowing what is suitable for the great, what is suitable for the small, and so on. Knowing through this is how one carries to the utmost the marvelous and spiritual functioning of wisdom to transform [beings].
