Fourth, mutual subsumption of the aggregates, bases, and realms with the one hundred dharmas. In the aggregate of matter, eleven kinds of matter are subsumed. The aggregate of feeling subsumes the mental factor of feeling among the universal [mental factors]. The aggregate of conception subsumes the mental factor of conception among the universal [mental factors]. The aggregate of formations subsumes the forty-nine associated mental factors and subsumes the twenty-four non-associated formation dharmas, combining to seventy-three dharmas. The aggregate of consciousness subsumes only the eight kinds of mind dharmas. In total, ninety-four dharmas are subsumed, excluding only the six unconditioned [dharmas]. Hence the *Kośa* states: 'The aggregates do not subsume the unconditioned, because the meaning does not apply.' As for subsumption by the twelve bases, the five internal bases and five external bases subsume the ten kinds of matter. The mind base subsumes the eight consciousnesses. The dharma base subsumes four categories of dharmas: namely, material dharmas—the matter subsumed under the dharma base has five kinds; associated dharmas, of which there are fifty-one; non-associated dharmas, of which there are twenty-four; and unconditioned dharmas, of which there are six—combining to eighty-six dharmas. As for subsumption by the eighteen realms, only the mind base is opened up to establish the six consciousness realms; the remainder are all the same as the bases.
