First, distinguishing what the eye perceives: (1) the fleshly eye, because it is produced by karma and so forth; (2) the divine eye, because it arises through the practice of skillful means—these two are both the eye faculty of the aggregate of form; (3) the wisdom eye; (4) the Dharma eye—these two are both the anāsrava faculty of wisdom; (5) the Buddha eye, which is identical to the preceding four. They will be extensively distinguished below under the six supernormal powers.
Fascicle 54 says: "Excluding the fleshly and divine eyes, the remaining eyes have all paramāṇus as their objective sphere of activity. Because that divine eye only perceives aggregated forms in their center, outside, upper, lower, front, back, and two sides, whether bright or dark, it definitely cannot perceive the locus of a paramāṇu, since the entity of a paramāṇu is established by mental analysis." If even the divine eye cannot do so, how much less the fleshly eye!
