Next, on the basis of explaining the names, there are three questions and answers. First question: Upholding its own characteristic, tathatā can properly be called Dharma; lacking harmony and devoid of awakening, how can it be called Buddha or Saṅgha? Answer: The nature of awakening, the reliance of awakening, and the root of awakening are called awakening. Harmony in principle and accord in phenomena, being the root of the community, are called saṅgha. Second question: In the superior and inferior among those who can learn, the Buddha and the Saṅgha are divided into two; in the fruits and causes of what is learned, the Dharma should not be one. Answer: Revealing practice through being with hindrances and without hindrances, those who can learn are easy to know, and thus are divided into two; clarifying realization through having superior and non-superior, what is learned is difficult to comprehend, and therefore is only one. Third question: If inferior and superior are difficult to comprehend and so the Dharma is combined into one, then phenomena and principle are easy to know, and the Dharma should be divided into two. Answer: The paths of master and disciple are distinct, so Buddha and Saṅgha are two; the meaning of standard and rule is uniform, so the Dharma is only one.
