《文殊師利問菩提心論》云：有十種發。一者身發，欲令眾生身業清淨故。二口發，欲令眾生口業清淨故。三者意發，欲令眾生意業清淨故（論釋云：為遠離身口意業一切惡行，發大精進也）。四者內發，以不虛妄分別一切諸眾生故（論云：以化一切眾生，令學彼處，不虛分別者，以不著諸法故）。五者外發，於一切眾生，平等行故（論云：以遠離增愛故）。六者智發，以具足佛智清淨故（論云：以平等教化一切眾生故）。七清淨國土發，以示一切諸佛國土功德莊嚴故（論云：以如實知心，便隨相應說法故）。十無為智滿足心發，以不著三界故（論云：以證實法，不三界故，又離虛妄法故）。

The Mañjuśrīparipṛcchā-bodhicitta-śāstra states: There are ten kinds of arousal. First is bodily arousal, because of desiring to make the bodily karma of sentient beings pure. Second is verbal arousal, because of desiring to make the verbal karma of sentient beings pure. Third is mental arousal, because of desiring to make the mental karma of sentient beings pure (the commentary on the treatise states: it is arousing great vigor in order to be far removed from all evil actions of bodily, verbal, and mental karma). Fourth is internal arousal, because of not falsely conceptualizing any sentient beings (the treatise states: because of transforming all sentient beings and causing them to train in those places; 'not falsely conceptualizing' means not clinging to dharmas). Fifth is external arousal, because of practicing equanimity toward all sentient beings (the treatise states: because of being far removed from attachment and aversion). Sixth is arousal of wisdom, because of being endowed with the purity of the Buddha's wisdom (the treatise states: because of teaching and transforming all sentient beings with equanimity). Seventh is the arousal of purifying lands, because of showing the adornment of the qualities of all Buddha-lands (the treatise states: because of knowing the mind in accordance with reality, one then speaks the Dharma accordingly). [Eighth and ninth omitted in text.] Tenth is the arousal of the mind perfected in unconditioned wisdom, because of not clinging to the three realms (the treatise states: because of realizing the true Dharma, not being in the three realms, and also because of being free from false dharmas).
